American Mountaineer, Everest Survivor Passes Away

Charlotte Fox, a trailblazing American mountaineer and the first American woman to reach the summit of three 8,000-meter peaks, has passed away at the age of 61. Fox, who climbed to dizzying heights and survived the deadly 1996 Mount Everest blizzard, died on May 24, 2018.

Fox's passing has sent shockwaves through the mountaineering community, where she was known for her unwavering determination and love of the mountains. She was one of the first American women to climb three 8,000-meter peaks, including Mount Everest, K2, and Kangchenjunga, and her accomplishments inspired countless climbers around the world.

In 1996, Fox was part of the ill-fated expedition led by Rob Hall, which was caught in a blizzard on Mount Everest. Eight climbers died in the storm, including Hall, but Fox miraculously survived. Her harrowing experience was chronicled in Jon Krakauer's best-selling book "Into Thin Air."

Despite the dangers she faced, Fox continued to climb, and she eventually became one of the most accomplished mountaineers of her generation. Her story is a testament to the human spirit's ability to overcome adversity and achieve incredible heights.
